New Zealand is eyeing 1,00,000 tourist arrivals from India in 4-5 years and is spending NZD 5 million during this financial year (July-June) on promotion and marketing activities here.
"India market is growing very fast and is positioned as number 10 source market. In 2015, we saw 46,000 tourist arrivals from India, which is a growth of 23 per cent from 2014. Looking at the steady growth we are hoping to reach 1,00,000 tourists from India in 4-5 years," Tourism New Zealand Regional Manager for South and South East Asia Steven Dixon told PTI.
Australia is the top source market for New Zealand followed by China, the US, the UK and Germany.
Tourism New Zealand has appointed Bollywood actor Sidharth Malhotra as a brand ambassador to connect better with the audience in India.
"We are extremely thrilled to have Sidharth on board as part of the Tourism New Zealand family. Our country experienced the impact of Bollywood when Sidharth was surrounded by fans everywhere he went. He was enthusiastic and eager to explore New Zealand's offerings, immersing himself in adventure, food and wine and Maori culture," Dixon said.
New Zealand, which is positioned as a premium destination, is mainly targeting visitors in age group of 25-40 years.
"We are mainly focused on people who are actively considering New Zealand as a must visit destination. We are targeting independent professionals mainly falling broadly in the 25-40 age group," Dixon added.
When asked what is New Zealand's unique selling proposition (USP), Dixon said they are showcasing the country as an ideal destination for young dynamic professionals, honeymooners and family.
"Our offerings are suited for those adventurous people who are looking to explore and discover the country and its culture and want to go to off beat places," he added.
