The estimated cost of the project is about Rs 3,064 crore and the construction period is two-and-a-half years, an official statement said.
"Six of these 14 lanes (three on either side) will be an access control expressway while the remaining eight lanes (four on either side) will be normal highway," it said.
It will help ease traffic in Delhi, Ghaziabad and Noida.
The 16-lane project will include six-lanes as expressway, making it an access-controlled highway.
The widening work is part of the Delhi-Meerut expressway project.
