"....Members and Chairmen of SHRC's have to be involved by the NHRC in its forums depending on the nature of the topic' for smoother and effective functioning of the mechanism," Karnataka State Human Rights Commission member Chandrashekar Gurubasappa Hungund said inaugurating a two-day workshop organised by Working Group on Human Rights in India and the UN (WGHR).
The regional workshop on UN human rights mechanisms with special focus on Universal Periodical Review (UPR) and Special Procedures is being attended by activists and NGOs from Southern states.
In the workshop attendees will discuss a series of topics relating to UPR, recommendations that government of India has accepted, and monitoring the implementation of recommendations accepted.
