Commission today issued a notice to the Uttar Pradesh government seeking its report into allegations that four houses belonging to Dalits in Bhita Village in Allahabad were demolished by members of upper caste.
The Commission gave four weeks to the Chief Secretary to submit the report, a statement said.
The statement said media reported that attackers took away the steel, cement and other construction material lying at the houses and injured five Dalits when they tried to resist them.
"Allegedly, the police did not register an FIR, when members of Dalit community approached them. The Commission has observed that the content of press report, if true, raise a serious issue of violation of human rights of Dalits," the statement said.
