However, other base metals moved in a tight range in scattered deals and settled around previous levels.
Traders said reduced demand from alloy-makers and a weak global trend mainly kept pressure on nickel prices.
Meanwhile, nickel for delivery in three month retreated 0.8 per cent to USD 11,540 a metric tonne on the London Metal Exchange.
In the national capital, nickel plate (4x4) fell by Rs 4 to Rs 965-970 per kg, respectively.
