Nifty rallies by over 43 points to end at 5,614.80

Yesterday after trading hours, the government proposed to push through key economic reforms bills in sectors like insurance, pension and banking in the forthcoming Winter Session of Parliament, which begins on Thursday.

The 50-share S&P CNX Nifty moved in a range of 5,620.20 and 5,561.40 before ending at 5,614.80, showing a rise of 43.25 points or 0.78 pct.

Asian stocks ended mixed with upward bias. Key indices from China, Hong Kong, Japan and Singapore closed with gains while from South Korea and Taiwan finished with losses.

European markets too were trading mixed in the afternoon deals after euro-zone ministers failed to reach an agreement on conditions to release the next tranche of aid for Greece.

The CAC was down by 0.06 pct, the FTSE by 0.10 pct while the DAX was up by 0.11 pct.

Top five gainers from the Nifty were Jai Prakash Asso (3.38 pct), Sun Pharma (2.54 pct), Cipla (2.51 pct), Tata Power (2.18 pct) and Icici Bank (1.99 pct) while Top five] losers were NTPC (3.77 pct), Bhel (2.61 pct), Power Grid (1.64 pct), Cairn India (1.21 pct) and Lupin (0.91 pct).

The turnover in cash segment declined to Rs 9,353.28 crore from Rs 9,658.98 crore yesterday. Overall, 5,667.62 lakh shares changed hands in 51,01,667 trades. Total market capitalisation stood at Rs 63,48,048 crore.
