Nitish asks police improve law and order

Presiding over a meeting with top police officials and district police chiefs via video conferencing here, he said the law and situation had improved and crime contained in the state due to efforts of the police.

However, the police brass must showcase their administrative capability to maintain the prevailing atmosphere of peace in the state.

He asked the policemen to pay attention to crime against women and children and directed railway police officials to take measures to contain crimes in trains.

Cases of land dispute should be dealt with expeditiously as it was a major cause of criminal cases.

District police chiefs should take initiative to control protest and agitations by the people and try to reach the spot to control such situation, he said adding they should also sit in their offices to hear people's grievances and get the feedback from their subordinates.

He said the state government had taken measures like building infrastructure for scientific investigation and proposed modernization of the forensic science laboratory to crack incidents of crime and book culprits.

The state government had also separated law and order and investigation works in the police department, Kumar said adding police must discharge their duties within the ambit of law and breach of rule would not be tolerated.
