Prime Minister Narendra Modi's attack on RJD chief Lalu Prasad for his controversial beef remarks today unleashed a furious response from leaders of Bihar's Grand Alliance with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar calling it a "brazen attempt to add communal texture" to Assembly polls.
Prasad on his part challenged Modi to prove that he had made the 'shaitan' (devil) on his tongue comment or else seek apology from the people of Bihar for insulting them through this barb against him in the context of his "Hindus also eat beef" remarks. Modi had trashed Lalu's explanation that he made the beef remark under the influence of "shaitan" (devil).
Delhi's ruling AAP also waded into the row over Modi's attack on Prasad, slamming him for invoking caste in his poll rally in Bihar and demanded action by the Election Commission.
Minutes after Modi ended his Munger election speech in which he accused Prasad of insulting his community 'Yaduvanshis' and the people of the state with his beef remarks, Kumar took to Twitter to criticise him.
"The real Modi on display -- brazen attempt to add communal texture to Bihar polls, but deafening silence on deplorable incident of Dadri," Kumar said.
In another tweet, Kumar said it was for all to see "why Vajpayee ji was forced to remind him (Modi) to follow Raj Dharma, but wonder who will do the Vajpayee today ?"
Kumar was referring to the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's words during his visit to a relief camp after the 2002 communal riots in Gujarat when Modi was the Chief Minister.
The JD(U) leader came down heavily on Modi for his languge saying after terming Kumar's DNA defective, he had called Lalu a 'shaitan' (devil).
In a series of tweets, Kumar said this showed Modi's mentality towards the people of Bihar as well as his dejection.
"First he said there is a flaw in our DNA. Then her dubbed Bihar as BIMARU and its populace unfortunate. Now he has attacked the grand alliance and Lalu ji as shaitan," he said.
AAP leader Ashutosh said that Modi had also made reference to caste during Parliamentary polls and a strict action needs to be taken against him.
"He made castiest comments in his rally and whatever words he has used have never been used by any Prime Minister before. He has done this in the past and we hope the Election Commission takes action against him," Ashutosh said.
While campaigning in Bihar today Modi launched a blistering attack on Prasad, saying his beef eating remark is an "abuse" and "huge insult" to Yaduvanshis (Yadav clan).
