Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today hit back at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his repeated "jungle raj" barb on secular alliance and said local bodies elections in Gujarat has been postponed on law and order issue.
"Modiji who ruled Gujarat for 12 year should answer why local bodies were shifted for a future date due to bad law and order situation," Kumar told reporters in a strong riposte to PM for his repeated "jungle raj" barb on secular alliance during his series of rallies in Bihar.
Kumar also negated PM's snide remark on law and order and reeled figures from National Crime Record Bureau to highlight that crime figures were more in BJP-ruled states of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Haryana.
Against PM's allegation on rise of kidnapping cases in Bihar in recent times since RJD became part of his government, Kumar sought to refute the charge through data.
He said from January to July this year, there were 3,743 incidents of general kidnapping and 40 cases of kidnapping for ransom in Bihar.
"Except for one, all 40 cases were solved and kidnapped person rescued," he said.
He reeled comparative figures of kidnapping in BJP ruled states during 2014.
In 2014, a total of 7,833 cases of general kidnapping was registered in Madhya Pradesh, 7,147 in Delhi and 6,570 in Bihar.
"In 2014 kidnapping rate in Bihar was 6.4 per one lakh of population while in Chhattisgarh it was 7.9, Haryana 11.5, MP 10.3 and Delhi 35.2 per one lakh of population," he said.
On PM referring to incident of miscreants firing on an Assistant Superintendent of Police in Patna on Thursday night to buttress his jungle raj allegations, Kumar said "law and order situation of a state cannot be discussed on the basis of one or two incident."
"They have adopted a policy of hit and run by making some allegation without listening to others' reply," he said.
Stating that he wish to reply to the issues raised by PM during his whirlwind election tour of Bihar, Kumar refused to accept PM's "hiding behind the statement of the President on Greater Noida incident where a man was killed over rumour of cow slaughter."
"On such sensitive matter, PM should make his own observation instead of hiding behind President's statement," he said.
Kumar also questioned Modi's silence over RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat remark on reservation.
"Though many BJP leaders have spoken on Bhagwat's remark, PM did not open his mouth even once on the topic on such an important issue," he said.
