Doctors at All India Institute of Medical Sciences have identified a bacteria strain from China which is spreading a particular type of tuberculosis, but there is no conclusive evidence that it is spreading through northeastern states, Lok Sabha was informed today.
"The government is aware about the study where Beijing strain of the bacteria, mycobaterium tuberculosis has been identified by doctors in AIIMS," Minister of State for Health Faggan Singh Kulaste said in a written reply.
He was asked whether government is aware about the research by doctors of AIIMS in New Delhi where it has been detected that a virus strain from China is spreading tuberculosis in the country.
"There is no conclusive evidence that the Beijing strain is spreading through northeastern states," Kulaste said.
He also said that in the government sector, reseach activities for detection and treatment of cancer are mostly carried out by institutions such as Indian Council of Medical Research, Department of Science and Technology and Department of Atomic Energy.
The Bhabha Atomic Reesrach Centre has developed Bhabhatron and the Society of Applied Microwave Electronics Engineering and Research has developed Linear Acceelerator.
Tuberculosis epidemic in India is "larger" than what was previously estimated, the World Health Organisation (WHO) had recently said.
It had asserted that the country was one of six nations which accounted for 60 per cent of the new cases in 2015.
The Global Tuberculosis Report 2016 which was released recently however, said the number of TB deaths and incidences rate continue to fall globally as well as in India.
