No impact of demonetisation on Rabi sowing: Haryana

Farmers in Haryana have so far achieved 86.17 per cent of the target set for sowing of wheat and other crops in Rabi season 2016-17, an official said today.
Farmers have covered 28.41 lakh hectares against the target of 32.97 lakh hectare, a spokesman of the Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare Department said, adding that the demonetisation of old currency notes has not caused any adverse effect on sowing of Rabi crops in the state.
He said that wheat has so far been sown in 22.24 lakh hectare area as against the target of 25.50 lakh hectare, covering 87.22 per cent of the target.
Similarly, gram has been sown in 71.25 per cent of the target area, covering 0.57 lakh hectare against the target of 0.80 lakh hectare.
Barley has been sown in 59.52 per cent of the target area at 0.25 lakh hectare against the target of 0.42 lakh hectare.
While Rabi pulses have been sown in 50 per cent of the target area, cover 0.05 lakh hectare against 0.10 lakh hectare, farmers growing Rabi oilseeds have achieved the maximum target by sowing their crops in 88.33 per cent of the target area.
These crops have been sown in 5.30 lakh hectare against the target of 6 lakh hectare.
He said that sowing of sunflower, which is to be done over 0.15 lakh hectare, would commence in February, 2017.
