The Finance Ministry's approval would not be required anymore to import currency and security printing paper, the Commerce Ministry said today.
"Requirement of a specific approval letter from Finance Ministry for import of Currency Note Paper/Security Printing Paper has been dispensed with...," the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) said in a notification.
However, it said the relaxation is subject to submission of a certificate of import from the head of the units of Security Printing and Minting Corporation of India Ltd (SPMCIL) and Bharatiya Reserve Bank Note Mudran Ltd (BRBNMPL) to customs, for clearance of such imports and actual user condition.
In a separate notification, the DGFT has permitted import of several agri-items including meslin, rye, oats, maize (corn), buckwheat, jawar, bajra, ragi and canary seeds freely.
Earlier, imports of these agri-items were allowed through state trading enterprises.
"The import policy for the agricultural items as listed... have been revised from State Trading Enterprises to Free," it said.
The moved is aimed at improving ease of doing business in the country.
