Organisers of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) have decided not to screen popular masala movies at the festival this year and focus more on the "serious cinema".
"IFFI is to do with serious cinema. The highest level of people in the film fraternity have felt that the festival should not have popular cinema," Vishnu Wagh, Vice Chairman, Entertainment Society of Goa, a nodal agency to host the festival on the part of state government, told PTI.
He said that popular films from Hindi, Telugu, Tamil and Bengali will not be screened in the festival beginning from November 20.
"The popular film content is totally different from the one expected at the festival. That is why it has been decided to keep them out of the schedule," Wagh said.
He claimed that the view is also shared by officials of the Directorate of Film Festival (DFF), who are partnering with the state government in organising this event.
Wagh said that many of the Bollywood filmmakers too are not in favour of premiering their films for the festival as the event is limited only for the delegates.
