After saying that Congress could support AAP in case of a hung verdict in the upcoming Delhi Assembly polls, former chief minister Sheila Dikshit today found herself on a sticky wicket as her party ruled out any possibility of its backing the Arvind Kejriwal-led outfit.
"How does the question of supporting AAP arise? (If that was the situation) then there was no need for elections. It must be her personal view," Congress spokesperson Shobha Oza told reporters here.
Recalling the support extended by her party to AAP as it led a 49-day government in Delhi, Oza said, "We gave them (AAP) a chance to prove what they had promised, but the Chief Minister gave up (his post), he relinquished."
Speaking separately, Delhi Congress President Arvinder Singh Lovely said there was no question of the party extending support to AAP as it had "betrayed" the people's trust.
Also, terming BJP and AAP two sides of the same coin, he said Congress was confident of winning the people's support and forming the government on its own after the polls.
Dikshit had created a flutter within Congress circles by remarking that support by the party to AAP cannot be ruled out in case of a hung verdict in the upcoming Assembly elections.
Congress had extended outside support to AAP to form a government here after the Assembly polls in December, 2013, saw the party winning eight seats while AAP bagged 28 constituencies.
Meanwhile, a meeting of the Central Election Committee of the Congress will be held on Monday to finalise its nominations for the Delhi Assembly polls.
