The Uttar Pradesh government today said the cases of non-filing of counter-affidavits on various matters in the High Court by the home department and police had declined.
The administration immediately took notice when the matter of non-filing of counter-affidavits in 1.6 lakh cases in the High Court till January this year came to the fore, Special Secretary (Home) Rakesh Chandra said.
An officer of an Additional SP rank was made nodal officer in every district to accelerate filing of the counter-affidavits, he said.
The number of pending cases of filing affidavits had come down to 4,000 to 5,000 and efforts were on to reduce them further, Chandra said.
