The actor shot into instant fame with his comedy serial 'Anando Brahma' on Doordarshan in mid-1980s. He not only acted in the serial but also wrote and directed it.
Dharmavarapu acted in several Telugu films, including many with all the top stars of the industry.
He directed one film 'Tokaleni Pitta'.
Dharmavarapu joined Congress when late Y S Rajasekhara Reddy was Chief Minister.
