Scores of journalists were today taken into preventive custody after they held a demonstration in front of the DGP office here strongly condemning the issuance of notice by Andhra Pradesh Police to T News channel.

The protesting journalists under the banner of Telangana Union of Working Journalists assembled in front of the AP Police Headquarters (DGP office) and raised slogans against Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and AP Police.

"Around 100 protesting journalists, who were demonstrating in front of the AP DGP office were taken into preventive custody for violating prohibitory orders and disturbing traffic as a preventive measure," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central Zone) V B Kamalsan Reddy told PTI.

Some of the protesting journalists were holding placards condemning the AP Police action.

There were also reports of protests across Telangana.

Earlier, the AP Police had issued notice to city-based news channel T News for airing an audio tape containing purported conversation between Chandrababu Naidu and nominated Telangana MLA Elvys Stephenson, saying it "will hurt the sentiments of Telugu-speaking people" in both the states.
