Delhi government has authorised two new centres to hold skill test for driving-licence seekers amidst a space and staff crunch at regional transport offices here.
A senior transport department official said people can now take driving tests at the Institute of Driving & Traffic Research centres on Loni Road and Sarai Kale Khan.
"The driving skill test at the regional transport offices will also continue. The decision was taken in order to ease the long queues of applicants who turn up to take the driving test.
"Applicants can take their driving test at these new centres, which will help to minimise the rush at the zonal offices," the official said.
A transport department order said that paucity of space and staff at the zonal offices was hampering the holding of proper driving skill tests.
"Many applicants come who do not have vehicles of their own on which they can give the skill test. In order to solve this problem, it has been decided that a pilot project the skill test for these applicants be held at the government motor training school at Loni Road and Sarai Kale Khan," the official further said.
According to the department, this facility will be in addition to the option of testing already available at the zonal offices and is "purely optional" on the part of the applicant.
