Gift this to your granny! A simple, easy-to-use tablet that can help elderly keep track of their health has been developed by a Vancouver-based company.
The device, called the Claris Companion, helps seniors connect with family and stay on top of medical treatment.
The tablet uses a straightforward user interface that lets seniors keep track of their health needs through daily medication and treatment reminders.
The device sends information to the phones, tablets or PCs of designated family members, friends or caregivers which can confirm whether the senior is following his or her health regimen.
Users can communicate on the device through email, text messaging and photo sharing, with video conferencing slated to be added soon. Elders can request their loved ones to call them by touching the 'call me' command, 'New York Daily News' reported.
"You're kind of building a social network around your granny. That easy-to-use technology hasn't been accessible to many seniors before," Paul Sharman, chief operating officer of Claris Healthcare, told the paper.
Use of the Companion can reduce the feelings of loneliness and isolation many seniors experience, as well as let family members non-invasively keep track of their loved one's well-being, Sharman said.
