The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) is monitoring the situation to ensure that essential medicines are available across the country at the ceiling prices fixed by the government, the Lok Sabha was informed on Tuesday.
In a written reply, Minister for Chemicals and Fertilisers D V Sadananda Gowda said: "NPPA is monitoring the situation regularly to ensure that ceiling prices of essential medicines are not breached and are available uninterruptedly."
In reply to another question, Gowda said, "NPPA monitors the prices of medicines on a regular basis to check overcharging by pharmaceutical companies."
