A day after four persons were killed when a motorised fishing boat capsized in Chilika lake in Ganjam district of the state, the Odisha government today sought a detailed report from the authorities concerned about the incident.
Transport minister Ramesh Majhi said the Director of Ports and Inland Water Transport has been asked to give a detailed report on all aspects related to the mishap that took place in the brackish water lagoon near Sabulia in Rambha area of Ganjam district yesterday.
Appropriate action would be taken on the basis of the report after examining it thoroughly, he told reporters.
Four persons, including two children, died when the boat carrying 29 passengers from Sabulia capsized in the lake, barely two kilometres from the shore while proceeding to Ghantasila.
Meanwhile, Chilika Development Authority (CDA) Chief P Krishnamohan, who visited the spot today, said the fishing boat, which had the maximum capacity of ferrying 10 to 12 passengers, was carrying more people.
The boat was today seized by the Rambha Police, which had registered a case against the two boatmen Dutia Mallick and Hatia Mallick for illegally ferrying the passengers in a fishing boat.
