The state, particularly western Odisha, virtually turned into a boiling pot as the mercury breached the 45 degrees Celsius mark at four places, 43 degree mark at nine places and 40 degree mark in at least 12 places, the MeT office here said.
"The toll due to heat, which stood at five, mounted to six with one death confirmed in Bargarh district," the Special Relief Commissioner's (SRC) office said.
Titlagarh was followed by Balangir, which recorded 46.4 degrees Celsius, while the mercury shot up to 45.5 degrees Celsius at Jharsuguda, 45.2 degrees Celsius at Malkangiri, 44.9 degrees Celsius at Sambalpur, 44.8 degrees Celsius at Sonepur, 44.6 degrees Celsius at Hirakud, 44.5 degrees Celsius at Bhawanipatna and 44.1 degrees Celsius at Angul, it said.
Phulbani town recorded a maximum temperature of 42.6 degrees Celsius, while the temperature was 42 degrees Celsius at both Sundargarh and Talcher.
