Rinku Nath (44), a shopkeeper, died on the spot when an uprooted tree fell on him at Dighalbak under Dharmanagar subdivision yesterday.
More than 200 houses collapsed in various villages of the subdivision, the sources said Rinku's family was given a cheque Rs 10,000 today.
Hundreds of houses collapsed in Chandrahalampara and Pashicm Panisagar area in Panisagar subdivision due to the storm which rendered at least 40 families homeless.
The heavy storm also lashed villages like Dhatucherra, Shantipur and its adjacent areas last night in Kailashahar subdivision leaving about 120 families home less.
Hundreds of affected families today blocked the Kailashahar-Kumarghat main road.
Sub-divisional Magistrate of Kailashahar visited the place and arranged for their relief and food, the sources added.
