Some assailants attacked Pawan Kumar, a resident of the Colony, as he was proceeding towards his residence after alighting from a train at Ajaibpur railway station, police said today.
When he raised an alarm people from a nearby religious place came to his help but seeing the mob the assailants fired at the people in panic killing one Bali in the shoot out, police said.
Two others - Shahbudu Danis and Anis - were also injured and they were admitted to a private hospital where their condition was stated to be stable.
Police said initial investigations revealed that old enmity may have been the cause of the attack and a search operation was on for the assailants.
