Farooq Ahmad Shah, a resident of south Kashmir's Anantnag district, was arrested yesterday by the state's Crime Branch for allegedly purchasing the question papers of CET conducted by the Board of Professional Entrance Examinations (BOPEE) last year, for his son.
"We have arrested Shah as we had evidence against him," Inspector General of Police, Crime Branch, Javed Mujtaba Gilani told PTI.
Mushtaq Ahmad Peer, former chairman of the Board and the prime suspect in the scam was arrested by police on November 23 and is currently under judicial custody.
Crime Branch started investigations into the scam after a written complaint was received earlier this year that 12 students had qualified for the CET 2012 examination by purchasing question papers from a syndicate that included some officials, who were close to Peer, the then chairman of the Board.
According to the complaint, the students mostly hailing from Anantnag had benefited from the scam and got admissions in various professional colleges of the state.
The IG said investigations in the case are on and refused to divulge any more details.
