While most of the answer sheets gutted in the blaze last evening belonged to three subjects, the answer sheets of Mathematics and Urdu bore the maximum brunt of the fire, said M V Naik, Sub-Divisional Officer of Police, Kaij.
The exact cause of the incident is being investigated, he said.
The fire was first spotted by the staffers who subsequently informed the police.
The HSC exam for class 12 started from February 21 and will end on March 20.
