Responding to queries during the Question Hour on employment, Labour and Employment minister, Dilip Thakor, said that data made available by district employment offices showed that 5.37 lakh unemployed persons were registered with it as on December 31, 2017.
He also informed the House that over 7.43 lakh persons got jobs, private as well as government ones, in 2016 and 2017. Of these, 12,869 managed to land government jobs while over 7.30 lakh were placed in the private sector, he said.
District-wise data tabled in the House showed that Ahmedabad topped in the number of unemployed youth as well as those who got jobs.
