The Jammu and Kashmir government today asked the Jammu University to immediately start the classes for the students of University Institute of Engineering Technology (UIET) at the varsity campus to avoid any loss of their studies.
Yesterday, the government gave go-ahead to the university to start its own engineering college and Rs 2.50 crore were provided to it as an initial grant.
While chairing a meeting, Education Minister Altaf Bukhari said, "There will be no compromise on the career of the students and I will personally oversee the functioning of UIET.
The UIET would continue to function at the Jammu University campus as a constituent college of the varsity and the class work should be resumed immediately purely in the interest of academic career of the students for the current session, the meeting decided.
The minister asked the Jammu University to hire a building in future to meet the accommodation needs till the permanent building is established.
However, it was resolved that the decision for the establishment of a permanent campus of the UIET would be taken separately in a meeting scheduled on March 6, chaired by the chancellor of the University of Jammu.
