Yesterday, the government gave go-ahead to the university to start its own engineering college and Rs 2.50 crore were provided to it as an initial grant.
While chairing a meeting, Education Minister Altaf Bukhari said, "There will be no compromise on the career of the students and I will personally oversee the functioning of UIET.
The UIET would continue to function at the Jammu University campus as a constituent college of the varsity and the class work should be resumed immediately purely in the interest of academic career of the students for the current session, the meeting decided.
However, it was resolved that the decision for the establishment of a permanent campus of the UIET would be taken separately in a meeting scheduled on March 6, chaired by the chancellor of the University of Jammu.
