Haryana government today said ownership rights will be given to the shopkeepers or tenants on market or collector rate, who have taken the property on lease or on rent from the Urban Local Bodies department for about 30 to 40 years.
Haryana Urban Local Bodies Minister Kavita Jain said that the ownership rights would be given after a survey.
She said that a state-level committee would be formed to assess whether the ownership rights should be given on collector rate or market rate.
"This assessment is necessary as market rate is less than collector rate at some places," she said in an official release.
Jain said that Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has given his approval to the proposal which would benefit a large number of people in urban areas of the state.
"Following the provision of ownership rights to shopkeepers or tenants, matters pending in various courts would also be disposed of," she said.
The minister said that the government would earn a huge amount of revenue with this decision. Currently, the Local Bodies earn meagre from such properties, she said.
Jain said that shopkeepers and tenants have been raising demand for ownership rights for the last one-and-a-half decade.
"The previous government had constituted a committee for this purpose, but no meeting of this committee was organised," she said.
