The carcass of an elephant was recovered today with its tusks hacked in Buxa Tiger Reserve of the district, forest department officials said.
"We suspect it to be a case of poaching. The carcass was spotted today by some villagers, who informed the forest department officers. The animal's tusks have been hacked," S Sundariyal, field director, Buxa Tiger Reserve, said.
"Investigations have already been started and a post mortem will be conducted on the body of the pachyderm. A manhunt has also been launched to nab the poachers," he said.
