Pak envoy's interactive session at Panjab Univ cancelled

Panjab University (PU) today called off an interactive session with High Commissioner of Pakistan Abdul Basit scheduled for July 30 in the wake of seven-day state mourning being observed throughout the country as a mark of respect to late former President A P J Abdul Kalam.
"In view of the period of national mourning and as a mark of respect to visionary former President of India, Bharat Ratna, A P J Abdul Kalam, the interactive meeting with the High Commissioner of Pakistan scheduled at Panjab University (PU) Campus on July 30 has been cancelled," PU Director, Public Relations Vineet Punia said here.
Basit was to hold interactive session with the faculty of Panjab University on July 30 at PU campus.
Notably, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal yesterday "called off" his meeting with Pakistan Envoy scheduled for July 29 in the wake of Gurdaspur attack.
High Commission for Pakistan had requested for a courtesy call on meeting with the Chief Minister.
Pak envoy was scheduled to visit Chandigarh from July 29 to August 1, 2015.
Meanwhile, condolence meetings were held in all teaching departments and Branches of Administrative Block of Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh to pay homage to former President of India and Bharat Ratna A P J Abdul Kalam, who passed away yesterday.
Condolence meeting was also held by the staff of Vice-Chancellor, Dean of University Instruction and Dean Research in the Committee Room of the Vice-Chancellor's Office, said the official release.
PU faculty also condemned the terror attack at Dinanagar in Gurdaspur district and observed that such kind of unethical and wrong deeds always lead to bloodshed and uneasiness in the society, said official release.
