Pak soldier killed in militant attack
Press Trust of India Peshawar A Pakistani soldier has been killed when suspected militants attacked a checkpost in the restive South Waziristan region, a security official said today.
The checkpost attack came late last night in the country's northwest area.
"A soldier embraced shahdat (martyrdom) due to terrorist fire last night on a security forces checkpost in Ladha," a senior security official said.
The attack came at a time when the peace talks between the government and the Taliban were cancelled yesterday following the killing of 23 security personnel.
Meanwhile, security forces today claimed to have foiled a terror bid with the arrest of an alleged terrorist and recovery of huge quantity of arms and ammunition in the tribal region.
A spokesman for the Frontier Corps, a paramilitary unit, said they have arrested a suspected militant from Aka khel area of Khyber Agency with a vehicle and weapons including 43 small machine guns, six repeaters, 15 pistols besides other arms.
