"Pakistani troops resorted to heavy weaponry firing and mortar shelling on nearly 10 forward posts along LoC in two sectors of Saujian and Mandi in Poonch district from 1800 hours this evening", a Senior Army officer told PTI, adding in all there were two ceasefire violations today.
Army troops took positions and retalitated effectively triggered heavy exchanges, which are still going on tonight, he said.
However, there was no ceasefire violations by Pakistan along the International Border (IB) in Jammu frontier, a BSF spokesman said tonight, as an uneasy calm prevailed today along the 192-km long IB.
"There has been no firing from Pakistan overnight till now. The borders are calm", Inspector General of Police (IGP), Jammu Zone, Rajesh Kumar told PTI.
There was no firing or mortar shelling since 8 AM yesterday along the IB.
Pakistani troops had last resorted to firing along the LoC on Saturday when they targeted forward Indian posts on the Banwat-Shahpur sector of Poonch district from 1300 hours, according to a senior Army officer.
To review the arrangements of border camps, Union Minister of State in the PMO Jitendra Singh visited some camps in R S Pura.
"The morale of the people and troops is very high. They are fully backing action of the Narendra Modi government for giving a befitting reply to Pak", Singh told reporters here.
