Pitching for integration of ayurveda, yoga and other traditional forms of treatment in health care, a committee set up to promote "holistic health" has recommended reforms in medical education, research and legal framework.
The reform should be brought in, the committee has said in its report submitted to the government on November 10, to bolster the national holistic public health system which will have ayurveda, yoga and naturopathy, unani, siddha and homeopathy (Ayush).
Sharing the committee's recommendations, Ayush Minister Shripad Naik told Lok Sabha that it was constituted to explore the possibility of promoting the concept of holistic health in the country to optimise utilisation of available manpower in the country.
S-Vyasa Yoga University Chancellor H R Nagendra headed the committee.
About 25 per cent of Ayush budget should be allotted to yoga and naturopathy, it said, adding that 20 per cent of Ayush budget should be spent on research on treatment, prevention, rehabilitation and promotion of positive health.
