But PCB Chairman Shaharyar Khan also said in a statement that the board would give a befitting farewell to Misbah-ul-Haq and Shahid Afridi who have announced their retirements from one-day internationals after the World Cup.
"As this World Cup 2015 campaign comes to an end, it brings the curtain down on the careers of two of our stalwarts, skipper Misbah-ul-Haq and Shahid Afridi. I take this opportunity to convey my personal appreciation for their immense contribution to Pakistan cricket," Khan said.
He also hoped that other players would learn from their World Cup experience for their future assignments.
Khan commiserated with Team Pakistan on losing its quarterfinal against Australia at Adelaide today.
"The team had made it to the quarterfinals on the back of some excellent performances in four consecutive wins. The quarterfinal loss is disappointing, but what is heartening is that the team showed a lot of fighting spirit and character in trying to defend a low total against tournament favourite hosts, Australia," the PCB chief said.
The World Cup proved to be a bright spot for some players including wicketkeeper-batsman, Sarfraz Ahmed and batsman Haris Sohail and pace bowlers Wahab Riaz, Irfan and Rahat Ali. But generally the performance of other players didn't come up to expectations.
