As many as 11 cases of murder, 21 of rape and molestation, 211 eve teasing cases, 46 instances of road rage, around 40 cases of shootout and firing, and 142 cases of stabbing were reported by dialing 100 on the day of Holi on March 24, according to the police data.
"The police also received around 13,250 cases of quarrel, of which more than 50 per cent were cases of drunken nuisance at public places," a senior official said.
Auto-lifting gangs were apparently extra-alert to make the most of the situation as 184 vehicle theft cases were reported on the day of Holi, against the average of 86 reported on any normal day in Delhi, the official said.
"In the 24-hour span starting 6 AM on March 24, the police received around 370 calls urging officials to get loud DJ systems closed," he said.
Calls regarding six suicide cases were also received.
"This Holi, Delhi Police's control room received as many as 35,890 calls, against the daily average of 24,000. Action was taken in 18,480 of them," the senior official in Delhi Police's Operation wing said, adding that figures for total calls and action taken are the highest ever.
In a special drive conducted by Delhi Traffic Police during the day of Holi and the evening preceding that, around 2,500 motorists were challaned for drunken driving and their licences seized.
At least four fatal accidents were also reported on the day of Holi, police said.
