"We want to take entire India towards cashless economy. We want to reduce the use of cash in the day-to-day lives. We want to go for plastic money," he told reporters after a meeting with bankers here.
"Prime Minister and Finance Minister have also spoken on this (cashless economy). There is a little reluctance to change over to plastic money. But plastic money is more safe," he said.
Talking about his meeting with bankers, the Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting said, "We discussed how to make Goa a model state in cashless economy. The tourist season is on so this is the right opportunity to introduce the cashless concept."
State departments such as Excise, Sales Tax and Transport had also been asked to take up steps to promote cashless transactions, he said.
"Meetings will also be held with traders and contractors who are working with the government," Rathore added.
