The director of a pharmaceutical company and his son, which allegedly supplied "poor quality" medicines administered to victims of sterilisation surgeries in Chhattisgarh's Bilaspur district, were remanded to judicial custody today by a local court till December 2.
Chief Judicial Magistrate Vivek Tiwari sent Ramesh Mahawar and his son Sumit, who are directors of Mahawar Pharma Pvt Ltd to 14 days' judicial remand, Station House Officer (SHO) of Pandri police station R K Dubey told PTI.
"After the expiry of their five-days police remand, they were produced in court today. Now they will be produced in the court on December 2," the SHO said.
On November 13, Ramesh Mahawar and his son Sumit were arrested on charges of cheating and all products of their manufacturing unit were banned across the state in the wake of the botched sterilisations tragedy.
Ciprocin-500 manufactured by the Raipur-based Mahwar Pharma was among drugs used in sterilisation camps held on November 8 and 10 in Bilaspur district after which 13 women died and over a 100 were admitted to different hospitals after they developed post-operative complications.
In the backdrop of the incident, a joint team of the police as well as the Food and Administration Authority had raided the Raipur-based manufacturing unit of the company and seized a large quantity of drugs.
Moreover, the police also seized several documents from the company.
