Pinjra Tod stages protest demanding colleges remove curfews for women students

Pinjra Tod, a students' collective, staged a protest Wednesday asking all the colleges of Delhi University to have no curfews for women students.

Members of the group marched through all colleges of North Campus to give a strong message to the administration that "we are not going to stop until our demands are met", they said.

"We entered Stephens, Hindu, Ramjas, DRC, Miranda and Khalsa. The Miranda House principal Pratibha Jolly was pressured to come out and speak to the students who had stormed through the front gate," they claimed.

They said Jolly agreed to put out a notice in the hostel Thursday saying wardens are not allowed to call up parents without a student's consent, they will not make sexist comments and there will be no curfew on food delivery.

According to the notice, clean drinking water and good food will also be ensured, they added.

"The principal also said she is too 'liberal' to not agree to our demands and that she will address our removal of curfew demand by October 30," they claimed.

Taking forward what happened in Miranda House, Pinjra Tod is giving a deadline to the Delhi University authorities to remove the curfew by October 30 or face indefinite protest and defial of curfew in all DU hostels, they said.

The students' collective had staged an all-night protest Monday demanding curfew-less nights for women students.
