Plea in HC against alleged sale of sub-standard liquor in

A writ petition was today filed in the Madras High Court seeking a direction to the food safety department to prevent alleged sale of sub-standard liquor in state-run Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (TASMAC) outlets.
The plea was filed by Chennai resident V Sriraman, referring to a news report published in an English daily, which claimed that the analysis report of certain alcoholic drinks did not conform to prescribed standards.
The petitioner alleged that certain items which do not conform to standards were maliciously certified by excise officials and has been bottled for human consumption.
The petitioner contended that the "inaction" of the authorities in taking corrective and preventive action amounted to abdication of their statutory duties.

He sought a direction from the court to food safety officials to take random samples from liquor outlets and send them to appropriate laboratories for analysis and to submit reports before it.
The petitioner sought an interim direction from the HC to take action against those who had allowed the sub-standard liquor for sale.
