CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury today targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his engagements on foreign policy issues and asked the government to focus more on domestic issues like farmers' suicides.
In a jibe at Modi, Yechury said it is India's "misfortune" that the Prime Minister has no time for people here as "he is either abroad or busy with leaders from abroad when in the country".
"First of all, take care of your kisans (farmers) who are dying, who are committing suicide. The misfortune of our country is that either the Prime Minister is abroad or he is busy in the country with leaders from abroad.
"...No time for people of India and our problems," the Rajya Sabha MP said on the sidelines of party's two-day politburo meeting, which concluded here today.
India today offered a concessional credit of USD 10 billion to Africa over the next five years and a grant assistance of USD 600 million even as Modi made a strong pitch for deeper ties in key areas of counter-terrorism, climate change and UN reforms.
