Prime Minister Narendra Modi today expressed grief over the demise of veteran Hindi poet and Jnanpith winner Kedarnath Singh.
The poet died following a prolonged illness at AIIMS here yesterday.
"Deeply sad on demise of great poet- writer Kedarnath Singh. He gave space to emotions of public life in his poetry. He will always be an inspiration for the literature world and general public," a statement quoting the prime minister said.
Singh was honoured with the prestigious Jnanpith award in 2013. He is known for his simple style of writing, often inspired by objects of everyday life.
Some of his best known works include the award-winning poetry collection Akaal Mein Saras, Bagh, Abhi Bilkul Abhi, Zameen pak Rahi Hai, Yahan se Dekho, Tolstoy aur cycle among many others.
