In a statement, he said "The students who are supposed to focus on education and set a prosperous future for themselves are getting addicted to drugs in some of the leading institutes in Chennai.This is a matter of serious concern," he said.
He said students from various states were joining the institutes and "some of them are getting addicted to drugs involuntarily."
Though the issue was raised in the state assembly during 2006-11,no action had been taken, he claimed.
If government did not take steps to prevent sale of drugs inside educational institutes, PMK would be forced to launch an agitation to press for the same, he said.
He also demanded that government cancel recognition to institutes which failed to contain the menace of drugs.
