Police bandobast scheme drawn up to check encroachments

The Madras High Court has been informed that police have drawn up a bandobast scheme in coordination with Chennai corporation officials to prevent hawkers from putting up shops on NSC Bose Road in Chennai.
This was submitted by Abhay Kumar Singh, additional commissioner of police, in his report recently filed before a division bench, comprising Chief Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice T.S.Sivagnanam in response to a contempt petition from activist 'Traffic' Ramaswamy relating to illegal hawkers on NSC Bose road.
Earlier, when the contempt petition came up, the bench had directed authorities to devise a scheme as to how they propose to ensure that there was no re-encroachment taking place.

After perusing the report, the bench said steps taken for implementation of the scheme along with photographs should be filed.
"We make it clear that the responsibility must rest primarily with one person at site who will be hauled up, if appropriate implementation does not take place," the bench added and posted further hearing of the case to October 20.
