Many a time, police outburst against people is because of their frustration due to inadequate facilities provided to them on duty, Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar today said.
"It is said that police burst out their anger towards people because they don't get proper facilities. They feel that there is no one to take care of their needs on duty. They don't have proper barracks (to live)," he said after inaugurating the building of Mapusa police station, around 10 km away from here.
He said taking into consideration the requirement of police officials on duty, the building has been built which is "far better than the state headquarter building in Panaji."
"This (police station) is not even a district headquarters. But the building is far better than the State Headquarters in Panaji," Parsekar said.
"I fear that Director General of Police might request me to shift the HQ in Mapusa in this building," he quipped.
Parsekar said the new building is people-friend and police-friendly structure which will help better policing in the area.
Stating that this is the third refurbished police station building that he has been inaugurating after one each at Bicholim and Pernem (both in North Goa), Parsekar claimed that his government is on development spree.
"We lost almost Rs 5,000 crore in last more than four years due to closure of mining industry. But that did not deter us from taking up the developmental works. We have taken fast paced developmental works," he said quoting construction of third bridge across Mandovi River here.
