Over 400 members of a Muslim sect tonight attempted to take out a candlelight march in Jorbagh area to protest against the massacre in Iraq but were prevented by the police.
The protesters gathered at a disputed land near the Jor Bagh metro station in south Delhi around 8.30 pm and wanted to march toward the Prime Minister's official residence at 7 Race Course Road. However, the police did not allow them.
As a sequel to the attempted protest march, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation closed the entry of commuters at Jor Bagh station at 7 PM but exit was allowed and trains were running normally, a DMRC official said. The entry however resumed at 9.30 PM.
A posse of policemen were deployed to prevent any untoward incident.
