Police rules out racial angle in Manipuri PhD scholar's murder

In a report submitted to the Home Ministry, Delhi Police has ruled out any racial angle in the murder of the Manipuri research scholar who was found dead in South Delhi's Kotla Mubarakpur area on Wednesday.
Concerned over the incident, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh had on Thursday sought a report from the Delhi Police over the matter.
Confirming the submission of the report, Delhi Police Commissioner B S Bassi today said the report was handed over to the ministry on Friday.
"The entire information regarding the case has been submitted to the Ministry and investigation is on. We are in contact with the residents of the northeast and they are aware of the efforts of the police to solve the case," Bassi told PTI.

Ruling out any racial angle in the case, he said,"There is no racial angle in this incident. It is a murder case of friendly entry," Bassi said after attending a function to celebrate the 22nd foundation day of the Urivi Vikram National Centre for Adolescents (UVNAC), Dwarka.
On Wednesday night, 33-year-old PhD scholar Keashung Zingram Kengooa was found dead with his neck slit.

He had completed his PhD from Tata Institute of Social Sciences had come to Delhi just a month ago and was searching a job.
The Commissioner also spoke about the other two incidents where youths from the northeast were found dead in the last week and said these were "accidental deaths".

"These two are also not racial incidents. They are accidental deaths. In one of them, the youth was drunk and died after a fall while in the other, the concerned youth had consumed alcohol and died due to over-asphyxiation," Bassi said.
Two youths from northeast were found dead in South Delhi's Malviya Nagar and Munirka on Thursday taking the number of such incidents to three in the last week.
