Subramaniam Srirag, a software engineer, was found dead in his car on May 22 near ACS layout in Mahadevapura with his head covered in a plastic bag sealed with cellotape and his body also tied with tape.

He suffocated to death after he had secured the plastic cover over the head and face with duct tapes, Bangalore (East) DCP T G Krishna Bhat told reporters here.

Srirag had also consumed excess dose of sleeping pills, he said.

After interrogating a girl, police came to know about her "virtual relationship" with Srirag through the internet, Bhat said.

The girl, who is working in a company, revealed that she and Srirag never met personally, but they were in touch through internet and SMSs, Bhat said.

She also said she emailed some other girl's photo to Srirag instead of hers. Thereafter, they constantly exchanged e-mails and SMS and one day Srirag proposed that they get married.

On May 21, the girl sent a message saying she was going to London to get married. Dejected, Srirag replied, he would commit suicide if she did not reply to his mail in 24 hours, Bhat said.

The girl is living with her uncle in K R Purama and her parents are residents of Jaipur.
