A police sub inspector was today arrested for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 from a man for early filing of charge sheet in a case.
Sleuths of Punjab Vigilance Bureau caught red-handed Sub Inspector (SI) Mewa Singh, posted at Sadar police station in Sunam in Sangrur district, when he was accepting the bribe, an official spokesperson of Vigilance Bureau said.
The action came on the complaint of a Patiala resident, who had approached the bureau officials alleging that a case was pending against him and his son and the Sub Inspector was demanding bribe of Rs 5000 for helping him in the case by filing early charge sheet.
Acting on the tip off, a Vigilance Bureau team laid a trap and apprehended Singh red-handed, he said.
