The station was opened when train services began in Podanur-Pollachi section on October 15, 1915 and extended to Dindigul in November, 1928. Later, another line was laid connecting Palakkad with Pollachi on April 1, 1932.
The Palakkad-Pollachi line closed for gauge conversion in 2008.
The Palakkad-Pollachi Railway line will inscribe a new chapter when regular train services starts in the newly converted 54.720 KMs broadgauge line at a cost of Rs.350 crore.
C. Mahendran, Pollachi, MP, M K Muthukaruppannasamy, MLA, Krishna Kumar, Pollachi Municipal Chairman, Rashmi Sidhharth Zagade, Sub-Collector Pollachi and Mohan A. Menon, Additional Divisional Railway Manager were present at the function to celebrate 100 years.
